Programs
Philosophically and theologically based on the premise of Good News regarding our relationship with God through Jesus Christ, Omega will offer the following to kids ages 12-21:
After School Programs
Often, kids just need a safe place to hang out with friends under loving adult supervision. The Omega Center will video games, board and recreational games, recorded and live music, a computer lab, homework help, career and resume writing aid, snacks and just a fun place to spend the afternoon. Teens will be assisted by volunteer staff, Pastors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, a School Psychologist, and others.
Evening Programs
Teens will also be served in the evenings with programming similar to the after school offerings. In addition, Omega will offer TNT (Teens-In-Turmoil), a support group for those struggling with addiction. Open mike nights featuring local youth artists will also be conducted. Every Wednesday, Mill Pond's Youth Group will meet and offer worship, instruction, food, and just another opportunity to connect with teens from around the region.
Parent/Adult Programs
The staff of Omega plans to provide parents with opportunities as well. Parenting classes, financial management courses, and parent support groups will be made available to serve adults in the greater-Newington area.
Weekends
Omega hopes to be a launching-pad for community service, especially on weekends. We'll offer services to the elderly, underprivileged, and terminally ill by partnering with local civic groups. Ministry partners such as CuzWeCare, a local non-profit agency serving cancer patients and seniors will use Omega teens to make and distribute pillows to local hospitals, nursing homes, etc. Omega teens also have assisted with leaf-raking, free car washes, feeding the homeless at the Hartford Rescue Mission, and similar projects. This, of course, will continue.
Field Trips
Omega Generation youth trips are currently offered throughout the year. These include retreats, camp-outs, and conference events such as ATF (Acquire the Fire) or Soulfest, etc. From time to time the Omega Center may also sponsor day trips to local points of historical interest.
College Student Internships
Many high school youth programs ignore the relational connection between older students and recent graduates who attend local colleges or universities; Omega will not. Students from local community colleges, CCSU, Trinity, and other institutions will be given opportunities to intern at Omega and thus help teens in their college and career plans through providing healthy role-modeling.
Other Possibilities
Social enterprise opportunities are an eventual possibility for the Omega Center. Teens could be given instruction and assistance in starting private enterprises such as landscaping, snow-removal, delivery services, and others as well. While earning an hourly wage, teens would be learning valuable skills in an environment much more "user-friendly," than the traditional fast food restaurant, etc. Money from these enterprises could also be put back into ministry, helping fund Omega Center programs.
