Background and Philosophy
Mill Pond Church was born in March of 2007 and quickly grew to over 150 regular attendees. Interestingly, at least half of those are under the age of 25, making MPC one of the youngest congregations in Greater Hartford. From the start, Mill Pond has been a safe place for kids and the home of "Omega Generation," a youth-group of excited teens ages 12-21. Omega is a place to discover the REAL meaning and purpose of life, a place where teens learn that they are MUCH more than highly-evolved, electrified pond scum. Rather than seeing themselves as a Darwinian accident, teens learn that God intentionally created them, loves them, and has a plan for their lives!
In early 2008, we established a separate non-profit corposration, The Omega Youth and Family Center, Inc. This organization has a board of directors composed of leaders from Mill Pond Church as well as from other religious, business, and community organizations. While the philosophy and purpose remains the same, this new entity is a combined effort and allows for collaboration and funding that would be otherwise unavailable.
Our youth are special, divine creations with purpose and a future that's bright and filled with hope. It's time to tell them that. It's time to put an end to cutting, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, and murderous intentions similar to the Columbine tragedy of just a few years ago.
How?
By sharing good news! ...By giving them truth, not lies about their past, present, and future. Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:31-32 NIV)." Jesus also said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6-7 NIV)."
True freedom and life comes from a connection to God through Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior. This is the starting point. Based on this relationship, relationships with others are built and then mutual-accountability, love, prayer, etc. is enabled. Transformation is the inevitable bi-product.
During our short history, we’ve seen many teens freed from suicidal thoughts/tendencies, cutting, drug and alcohol abuse, and other problems. To continue to facilitate this process for dozens of others, Mill Pond Church is pleased to sponsor the Omega Youth and Family Center. Philosophically and theologically based on the premise of Good News regarding our relationship with God through Jesus Christ, Omega will offer a variety of programs to kids ages 12-21.
